Now that you've decided to become a member of troop GA-2016 you'll need to get yourself and your son registered. The remainder of this page will take you through the steps required to complete this registration. Think of it as a check list!
If you came to this page looking for the entire digital collection of forms and documents made available at the start of the year, please download this Document Collection.
Step 1 - Start The Process & Welcome
There are three ways to start the process:
If you have already visited with us or attended the Orientation / Open House meeting, please just provide your email address or mobile phone number to the Committee Chair and a link to create a Trail Life Connect account will be sent to you.
You may also utilize Find a Troop on the Trail Life USA website. Just search your ZIP code or browse the map to find GA-2016, then click the Connect with Troop GA-2016 button. Fill in the information requested, and we will receive your connection request. As above, this will result in a link to create a Trail Life Connect account being sent to you.
If you have previously been registered with another Trail Life Troop, please let the Committee Chair know which troop and either the username or email address associated with your Trail Life Connect account, and we will work to get your and your son's accounts transferred to GA-2016. This is typically easier than setting up a new account and ensures that your son's previous advancements come along with him.
As you're waiting for our response to this initial submission, please take a look at the GA-2016 Welcome Letter.
Step 2 - Create a Trail Life Connect Account & Register Your Son
Completing Step 1 will result in you receiving an email from Trail Life Connect with an invitation to create an account. Membership gives you access to the Troop's Trail Life Connect web site, provides insurance coverage for eligible Troop activities, allows you to apply for leadership roles, and opens up the world of Trail Life USA adventure, character, and leadership opportunities for you and your son. For more detailed directions for this step, please download and view the TLC Registration Directions PDF.
NOTE: This step requires you to pay the $42.27 Annual National Membership Fee for your son. This membership fee will be due annually on the anniversary of your last payment date. This is only one portion of the overall dues. Please see the FAQ regarding the cost of the program to see the full picture.
Step 3 - Complete Health and Medical Forms for Both You and Your Son
Fill in and return a Health and Medical Form for both you and your son. You may bring this printed out to your first regular meeting or you may submit them via email to the Health and Safety Chair.
Step 4 - Complete Troop Registration Form for Your Son
Fill in and return a registration form for your son. You may bring this printed out to your first regular meeting along with payment.
NOTE: This step requires you to pay the $25 Local Troop Registration for your son. You may also opt to go ahead and pay your $40 Local Dues for the year at the same time. This is only one portion of the overall dues. Please see the FAQ regarding the cost of the program to see the full picture.
Step 5 - Uniform Order
Our troop requires each boy to have and wear a Class A uniform to our weekly meetings. This promotes discipline and unity within the troop. Class B uniforms are meant for hiking, camping or other outdoor activities outside our weekly meetings. For more information on Trail Life Uniforms please see the related FAQ.
You may order directly on your own from the Trail Life USA Shop, or you may fill in the order form below and return it along with payment to the Troop Ministry Liason to be grouped into a troop wide order that will save you money on shipping costs.
Step 6 - Read Safety Policies & Procedures
In order to ensure the safety of everyone involved in our troop, and most especially the children, GA-2016 has adopted Safety Policies & Procedures. Everyone involved with our troop is expected to know and adhere to these.
Step 7 - Get Involved as a Registered Adult
GA-2016, like all Trail Life troops, is only possible because of parent and church volunteers. We need and want all parents to have as much involvement in our troop as possible. This is especially true for dads who have a pivotal role to play in their son's life and the lives of other boys and young men. As the old adage goes, "Many hands make light work."
This doesn't mean you have to lead a patrol on day one, although we welcome your interest. At a minimum we ask that dads become Registered Adults. In short, this allows you to act as part of our 2-Deep Safety structure. Like you, our leaders can't always be at every meeting. When that occurs, we need others to back fill into the patrols so that we maintain 2-Deep adult leadership. It also positions you to be able to fill other leadership roles in the troop.
Becoming a Registered Adult involves:
Existing troop leadership getting to know you
Completing a series of online training videos
Passing a TLUSA background check
Paying Trail Life National Dues for your adult account
Also, we like to know what skills and gifts you have that could add to our troop. Please download, fill in, and return our Parent Involvement Form so that we can understand how you might best be able to help us.
